Paint correction is the processing of removing a very thin top layer of car clear coat. This removes fine scratches and swirl marks. Because usually paint scratches are on the surface of the clear coat but some run deep. When you remove the top layer of clear coat you also remove the scratches. As a result making your paint look smooth and clear as the day it rolled off the lot.
Paint correction benefits are cosmetic in nature only. It does not provide any other benefit aside from bringing back the smooth finish and gloss of your car. So if you are looking to bring life back into your car's look then paint correction might be right for you.
Any time you want since the cost will go up and down with the amount of labor. You don't have to wait until your car is completely covered in scratches and swirl marks. You can spot paint correct only as much as you need. If you have a a spot on your car that is an eye sore on the surface level then you can remove it. It would be cheaper than a full body paint correction.
There are many levels to paint correcting. But most people will only need a one step and sometimes a two step to remove deeper scratches. The word "step" refers to how many times you will go over the same spot or panel of paint. A one step uses a gentle foam pad with a gentle polish. This only removes fine scratches as thick as a strand of hair or even less which are hard to see. To remove scratches that are visible and a bit deeper you will need a two step. Two step uses a more aggressive wool pad with a compound to remove more of the clear coat as the first step. This gets rid of deeper scratches but leaves behind a bit of marring. Then we do the second step using a foam pad and polish to remove the marring and any other fine scratches. Now if the scratches catches your finger nail then it might be too deep to remove. At this point you might need to perform actual paintwork.
Your car paint will look and feel smooth to the touch. You will remove surface level marring, scratches and imperfections. As a result restoring the brand new look that you car paint came with.
Sometimes scratches and marring are not the only thing ruining the look of your paint. Oxidation and paint fading can make your color look dull. Paint correction can restore the deep glossy color of your paint.
Everything mentioned so far will contribute to preserving the resale value. If you decide to sell your car in the future it will have a newer, cleaner, and better looking paint that pops. Many people love driving a good looking car, as a result it would boost the car's resale value.
